Lost and Found (Luke 15)

Jesus was a captivating teacher, and many of his most memorable teachings were conveyed as parables. These short, metaphorical stories were so artistic, vivid and compelling, they could be remembered after just one telling. But despite their apparent simplicity, Jesus’ parables contain paradoxes, surprises, and cryptic elements that demand deeper reflection and contemplation. Jesus explained they were intended “for those who had ears to hear.” We will therefore attempt to approach these stories with open hearts, laying aside our assumptions about what they mean, and inviting God to use their ambiguity to speak to us anew.
