The Spirit of Christmas Present

In this second week, we look at the Spirit of Christmas Present.

From Series: "A Christmas Carol"

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach…” – Ebenezer Scrooge, A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is a well-known and much-loved story of one person’s transformation. Encountering three spirits on the night of Christmas Eve—the Spirit of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come—Ebenezer Scrooge is forced to consider who he is, his impact on those around him, and who he wants to become. Such themes echo the challenge of Advent—to reflect honestly, change courageously and prepare patiently for the Advent, or arrival, of Christ. This Advent, we too will consider Christmas past, present and future. We will hope with the prophets for the coming of the Messiah, and explore the value of waiting. We will seek the peace of Christ’s presence with us today in the midst of the ups and downs of life. And we will look forward to the future, when all things will be reconciled to God through the love of Christ. As we enter Christmas week, we will celebrate the joy of Christmas with an all ages service of readings and carols.
