CHURCH COMMUNITY NEWS
1. What We’re Doing This Month:
During March, we will continue to observe Lent, the traditional 40-day season of self-examination and personal reflection. During Lent, we are engaged in a discipleship series called "Who Am I?" which began in February. Our whole community is interacting with this material designed to help us reflect personally on who we are, where we've come from, what motivates and inspires us and what kind of people we want to become. The series will also help us discover what partnership with Jesus looks like for us personally as we live our lives in this world.
March culminates with Holy Week, when we commemorate and celebrate Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter.
2. Open Studio – Calling All Artists
Saturday, March 9, is reserved for artists in the Cedar Ridge community to gather and do what you love doing best. Meet in the barn at 9 am until noon. Whether it's painting, collage, drawing or crafts. Bring in objects to create your own still life or you may choose to use our beautiful grounds for a landscape. Please bring along any supplies that you will need to make your creation, including easels. Some tables and chairs will be available. There is no fee. This event is suitable for adults and teenagers, and please feel free to invite friends. Contact Cyndie Widmer for more information.
3. Parents Night Out
Parents, we would like to take care of your kids while you have some time to yourselves. On Saturday, March 16, from 6:00-10:30 pm, you can drop them off in the barn and a team of middle and high school students and adults will watch and entertain them for the evening. This is our first official fundraiser for our Guatemala trip this summer, so your donations will be greatly appreciated. Questions? Please contact Steve Mather or Bryan Peterson.
GETTING CONNECTED: OPPORTUNITIES TO LIVE, LEARN, AND GROW WITH CEDAR RIDGE
4. Farmer News and Needs
The farm team is gearing up for the 2013 Season! Spring is coming and that means our farm is preparing for the growing season again. For more information about getting involved, please contact Barb Graham or Lisa Cobb.
On the Spring Day of Service (April 14) the farm team welcomes you to join us to serve on the farm at Cedar Ridge. We'll have many fun projects available for adults and children alike. Join the fun and get some exercise and fresh air on service day!
5. Farmers Market Update
We will be hosting a Farmers Market on our property on Sunday mornings in the spring, beginning April 21 and running through November 17. Thank you for all your feedback on the recent survey. We are still in the development and planning stages, but several farmers and other vendors are already committed to participate and lots of fresh, healthy, locally grown produce will be available. Cedar Ridge is also making financial contributions to help local low-income families (who are part of the WIC and Food Stamp programs) have more buying power at the market. More details to come soon. Contact the farm team for more information.
GETTING INVOLVED: MEETING NEEDS IN OUR CHURCH, COMMUNITY, AND WORLD
6. We Need Your Help in Children’s Ministry
Each week, kids gather in the nursery, preschool rooms and elementary groups to learn together what it means to follow Jesus. We have a great team of leaders who work with and care for our kids, but we are missing a few key helpers. Might you be part of the solution? The amount of preparation required is very minimal for most, yet the rewards of connecting with our children can be high. To explore the possibilities of getting involved, contact Bryan Peterson or stop by the children's ministry desk in the commons today.
7. Cedar Ridge-Ipala Partnership Trip
This July (tentatively 6th-15th), a team of Cedar Ridgers will be heading down to Ipala, Guatemala to continue developing our relationship with children, youth, and adults there. If you are interested in going, pick up an application in the Commons or at www.crcc.org. Applications for students and adults are due Sunday, March 17.
8. Teachers for Summer Exchange in Ipala, Guatemala
Teachers interested in participating in the ongoing exchange between our Global Engagement partners in Ipala, Guatemala and Riverdale Park, Maryland this July should contact Vernon Archer. The program focuses on teaching English and the mentoring program at the elementary and secondary school level for two weeks in Ipala while also learning about the local culture and touring its sights.
9. Looking Forward
On Sunday, April 14, there will be Spring Day of Service for all ages beginning at 10 am. We will gather to sing and pray and then go out together in teams to serve on various projects at Cedar Ridge itself and in our local community. Do not miss this wonderful experience of servanthood; please contact Matthew Dyer if you would like to help lead or coordinate a service project.
10. Service Opportunities
- A Simple, Yet Sacred, Way You Can Serve
Would you be interested in helping behind-the-scenes during a time you are already planning to be at church on Sunday? We are in need of a few additional volunteers to assist with preparing communion. This is a simple process which involves preparing the communion elements, juice and bread, for the congregation on Sunday mornings at 9 am and setting it out in the auditorium. The process takes about 30 minutes and is one small but significant way you can serve the Cedar Ridge community. Please contact Sarah Hughey for more information.
- Property Workdays
Come join us every other Saturday for the Property Workdays, 8 am-noon, as our community gathers to care for our buildings and land. Our next workdays will be March 9 and 23 and April 6. Contact Mark Hartley for more
formation.
