March 2013 Bulletin

Issue:
March 2013

What We’re Doing This Month

During March, we will continue to observe Lent, the traditional 40-day season of self-examination and personal reflection. During Lent, we are engaged in a discipleship series called "Who Am I?", which began in February. Our whole community is interacting with this material designed to help us reflect personally on who we are, where we've come from, what motivates and inspires us and what kind of people we want to become. The series will also help us discover what partnership with Jesus looks like for us personally as we live our lives in this world.

March culminates with Holy Week, when we commemorate and celebrate Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter.

Important Date

March 9: Open Studio
Calling all artists for an Open Studio ito be held in the barn on Saturday, March 9. This day is reserved for artists in the Cedar Ridge community to gather and do what you love doing best. Whether it's painting, collage, drawing or crafts. Bring in objects to create your own still life, or you may choose to use our beautiful grounds for a landscape. Please bring along any supplies that you will need to make your creation, including easels. Some tables and chairs will be available. There is no fee. This event is suitable for adults and teenagers; please feel free to invite friends. For more information, contact Cyndie Widmer.

Looking Forward

April 14: Spring Day of Service
There will be Spring Day of Service for all ages beginning at 10 am. We will gather to sing and pray and then go out together in teams to serve on various projects at Cedar Ridge itself and in our local community.  Do not miss this wonderful experience of servanthood; please contact Matthew Dyer if you would like to help lead or coordinate a service project.

Children’s Ministry Needs You

Each week, kids gather in the nursery, preschool rooms and elementary groups to learn together what it means to follow Jesus. We have a great team of leaders who work with and care for our kids, but we are missing a few key helpers. Might you be part of the solution? The amount of preparation required is very minimal for most, yet the rewards of connecting with our children can be high. To explore the possibilities of getting involved, contact Bryan Peterson or stop by the children's ministry desk in the commons today.

Farm Team News and Needs

Spring planting will be here soon! For more information about getting involved on the farm, please contact Barbara Graham or Lisa Cobb. On the Spring Day of Service (April 14) the farm team welcomes you to join us to serve on the farm. We will have a variety of fun projects available for adults and children. Join the fun and get some exercise and fresh air on service day!

Please continue to save your clean, dry egg shells for the farm along with plastic containers suitable for produce packaging and delivery. These items can be placed in the farm shed.

Farmers Market Update

We will be hosting a Farmers Market on our property on Sunday mornings in the spring, beginning April 21 and running through November 17. Thank you for all your feedback on the recent survey. We are still in the development and planning stages but several farmers and other vendors are already committed to participate and lots of fresh, healthy, locally grown produce will be available. Cedar Ridge is also making financial contributions to help local low-income families (who are part of the WIC and Food Stamp programs) have more buying power at the market. More details to come soon. Contact the farm team for more info.

Observing Lent and Holy Week

March 29: Good Friday
We will celebrate the mystery and sacredness of Jesus’ suffering and death with a service from 7-8 pm with dramatic readings of scripture, meditation and periods of silence.
Friday ∙ March 29 ∙ 7-8 pm ∙ Auditorium

March 31: Easter Sunday
We will gather together as a whole community to commemorate Jesus’ resurrection, and celebrate his goodness, love and power bringing life to all the world. We will have a service that will be enjoyable for the whole family and appropriate for children of all ages. No separate children’s gatherings.
Sunday ∙ March 31 ∙ 10 am ∙ All Ages Together

Parent-Child Wiggle Room

At Cedar Ridge we look forward to the worship services when we bring all ages together in one room (March 31). We know that may mean a bit more noise and movement, and we are okay with that. However, if you are a parent or caregiver who wants to step out with your child, Room 202 is available with some toys and a live video feed of the service. The nursery is also available—unstaffed, so please plan to stay with your child. Additionally, Worship Activity Bags for preschoolers are available at the children's ministry desk.

Cedar Ridge-Ipala Partnership

Guatemala Trip

This July (tentatively 6th-15th), a team of Cedar Ridgers will be heading down to Ipala, Guatemala to continue developing our relationship with children, youth, and adults there. If you are interested in going, pick up an application in the commons or at www.crcc.org.  Applications for students and adults are due to Bryan Peterson by Sunday, March 17.

Parents Night Out Fundraiser

We would like to take care of your kids while you have some time to yourselves. On Saturday, March 16, from 6:00-10:30 pm, you can drop them off in the barn and a team of middle and high school students and adults will watch and entertain them for the evening. This is our first official fundraiser for our Guatemala trip this summer, so your donations will be greatly appreciated. Questions? Please contact Steve Mather or Bryan Peterson.
