Community Home

The Community group is intended to offer a space where subscribers can:

  • share about prayer and invite others to join with you in prayer
  • find practical help recommended by other Cedar Ridgers, or give away or sell personal items
  • invite people to a community-building / social event
  • share about practical ways you see our vision being lived out (For example, sheltering from the frenzied pace of life, serving our neighbors, caring for the poor, living simply and ethically, becoming better people …)
  • for those new to the church to connect with other Cedar Ridgers in your neighborhood

It is not intended for:

  • business advertisements
  • forwarded articles, links, news items, chain emails, etc. Posts to the group should be from original senders.
  • political views or other opinions that might cause division. We are a diverse group of people and we want the focus to be on what unites us.

Neighbors in Need

Hi Cedar Ridge,

Today, we were made aware of a need in our own Cedar Ridge neighborhood. A family who lives about a "block" away from our property is going through a difficult time.  The mother was diagnosed with lung and liver cancer about a month ago and is currently undergoing treatment and has been unable to work. The husband was laid off some time ago after his long-time employer went out of business.  Their 14 year old son has been struggling a bit with these recent events. Obviously there are physical, emotional, and financial needs involved. » Read more

Apartment Needed Badly

Hi Folks.  This is Bill Duncan.  I have a friend in Warrenton VA who has been trying to assist a single mom and her very ill son.  I will include the body of the email below but the jist of it is that they are in need of an inexpensive place to live in the Maryland area as the mom is trying to get her son seen at either NIH or Hopkins.  So if you have something or know of something or can point me in a better direction, please let me know. Here is the email: » Read more

Best Baltimore Area Schools?

Hi everyone!  My husband, Conrad, and I were regular attenders at Cedar Ridge a few years ago, but moved to Chicago.  However, it looks like Conrad will be getting a job opportunity in the Baltimore area.  We used to live in Silver Spring, and our kids are no longer toddlers and babies, so we are curious if anyone has opinions about the best places to live in or near Baltimore with great schools.

Our son, Oliver, is 6 and in first grade.  Hazel is 4 and is in preschool here, although I know that might not be an option if we move.

Anyway, in the 'pro' column for moving to Baltimore is definitely Cedar Ridge, and we would be delighted to come back home to y'all.

Best,

Katy Deitrick

A Prayerful Summer Solstice

Our God in the Movies series gives us a chance to think about our own perspectives and to consider how we see God in the world. Join a small group of us in the Barn on Thursday, June 21st from 7 to  9 pm as we use scripture, poetry, conversation and silence to help us recognize and experience God’s bountiful provision for us.  We’ll think about summer as a season of growth and abundance and reflect on how that plays out in our spiritual lives. This will be the last prayer practice of the summer, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, this would be a great evening to come along!

Thursday 7-9 Miracle of Creation Prayer Practice

Take a break from the busyness of life and devote some time to quiet prayer and contemplation in the historic barn. Join a small group of us as we reflect on the words of Jesus and the miracle of God's creation and our place in it. A great way to begin the new discipleship series. 7-9 this Thursday in the Barn.

Used/fixable adult men's bikes needed for Aunt Hatties Place

I'm working w/Aunt Hatties Place, a group foster home for teen boys in Ashton, to find several  bikes that are rideable or can be fixed up, to give to them -- for spring riding and general transportation.

Any adult male bikes, especially mountain bikes w/26-inch wheels, would be appreciated. Please let me know what you've got first (edwarner@hotmail.com). then, you can bring them to church, if possible, to pass to me, or if you're in the Olney/Columbia area, I can come get them.

I can also be reached by phone at home at 410-531-7842 or at work at 202-203-7115. Also, any parts for use in the project such as inner tubes, seats and 26- or 27-inch tires would be greatly appreciated, too.

Thanks.
